Healthcare Innovators hosted a panel discussion at Georgetown University on Thursday, March 31, 2016 entitled, “The Pathway to Innovation.”
Our panelists provided insight on the need for innovation in healthcare, the breadth of innovations today, how the education and academia are adapting for innovation, and more.
1) Stephen Ray Mitchell, MD, MBA. A Dreyfuss National Merit Scholar at the University of North Carolina, Dr. Mitchell completed training in internal medicine and pediatrics at the North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. In 1988, he accepted a faculty position to provide rheumatology teaching and service in adult and pediatric rheumatology at Georgetown University Hospital. He served as Associate Dean for Clinical Curriculum at Georgetown University School of Medicine from 1998 – 2000 and Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 2000- until May 2002. He currently serves as the Joseph Butenas Professor of and Dean of Medical Education at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. In July 2005, he was named one of Washingtonian magazine’s “Top Docs” for his work in pediatrics at Georgetown.
2) Sana Syed, MD, MPH. Dr. Syed is a Neurologist at Tufts Medical Center with a collaborative position as a Clinical Translational Research Fellow in the Quantitative Medicine department. In her position at Pfizer, Dr. Syed does research in computational Neuromedicine and Human Exploratory Biology. She completed her residency in Neurology at Boston University Medical Center and then went on to complete a Fellowship in Demyelinating Disorders and a Cognitive Neurology Fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School. She also holds an MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health concentrating on management in health medicine.
